KOSPI Falls After Attempt to Reclaim the 6,000 Level, Holds Around 5,600 [Fn Afternoon Market Update]

[Financial News] The KOSPI rose as high as the 5,900 level, but failed to reclaim 6,000 and slipped back to the 5,600 range.
As of 1:30 p.m. on the 30th, the KOSPI was trading at 5,643.43, down 19.81 points, or 0.35 percent, from the previous session. The index opened the day at 5,681.77, up 18.53 points, or 0.33 percent, from the previous close, and at one point surged 5.54 percent to 5,976.82 intraday before giving back its gains and turning lower.
On the Korea Exchange Main Board, institutions and foreign investors were net buyers of 859.4 billion won and 677.6 billion won, respectively. Individuals, meanwhile, were net sellers of 1.5364 trillion won.
Among the large-cap stocks, Samsung Electronics (0.84 percent), LG Energy Solution (6.49 percent), Samsung Biologics (1.42 percent), KB Financial Group (4.31 percent), and Samsung C&T Corporation (3.85 percent) were trading higher. SK hynix (-4.43 percent), SK Square (-6.47 percent), Hyundai Motor Company (-0.99 percent), Samsung Electro-Mechanics (-10.69 percent), and Samsung Life Insurance (-0.47 percent) were lower.
By sector, metals (2.71 percent), transportation and warehousing (2.54 percent), transportation equipment and parts (2.38 percent), pharmaceuticals (2.19 percent), chemicals (2.15 percent), and nonmetals (2.12 percent) were showing strength. Electricity and electronics (-1.29 percent), entertainment and culture (-1.25 percent), manufacturing (-0.46 percent), and medical and precision instruments (-0.47 percent) were weak.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ was trading at 651.63, down 11.05 points, or 1.67 percent, from the previous close. The KOSDAQ opened down 7.96 points, or 1.20 percent, at 654.72, then at one point rose 2.19 percent to 677.19 before reversing course.
On the KOSDAQ, foreign investors were buying 95.9 billion won worth of shares. Institutions and individuals, on the other hand, were selling 60.6 billion won and 38.3 billion won worth of shares, respectively.
