[Financial News] The ruling and opposition parties reached a final agreement on the 30th on a special prosecutor bill to investigate the truth behind issues including the National Election Commission's shortage of ballots.
After repeated meetings at the National Assembly to narrow their differences over the NEC special prosecutor bill, the floor leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party reached a consensus and finalized the agreement. The bill, which the two sides agreed on, is expected to go through a vote at the plenary meeting of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee this afternoon before being submitted to the full Senate session for immediate passage. Cheon Jun-ho, the DPK senior deputy floor leader for operations, said after the agreement was reached, "It is difficult to discuss the detailed contents of the special prosecutor bill at this point," adding, "Please check again once the wording of the bill has been completed in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee."
In addition, the two parties agreed to extend by 30 days the activity period of the NEC inquiry special committee, which had been scheduled to end on the 1st of next month. Cheon said, "The inquiry special committee is set to end on August 1, and the ruling and opposition parties agreed to extend it by 30 days for the purpose of conducting a recount of the ballot boxes at the Olympic Park counting center."
