DPK: "Supplementary Investigation Rights Abolition Bill and Other Measures to Be Passed at the Plenary Session on the 30th... PPP's Filibuster Is Irresponsible"

[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) said it will push through the "bill to abolish supplementary investigation rights," a bill to shorten the fast-track period, and a special counsel bill for the National Election Commission (NEC) at the National Assembly plenary session on the 30th. In response to the People Power Party, which has announced a three-day, two-night filibuster, the party denounced it as "irresponsible political strife."
Han Byung-do, acting leader and floor leader of the DPK, announced the plan at a policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly that day. He said, "We will complete the revision of the Criminal Procedure Act without delay so that the Public Prosecution Office and the Serious Crime Investigation Agency can launch smoothly on October 2."
He also criticized the People Power Party, saying it is "holding hostage livelihood bills that have passed the Standing Committee and the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and are waiting for approval at the plenary session." He added, "They ignored participation in and review by the committees, and now they are claiming legislative dictatorship and one-sided passage. That does not make sense." On the bill to abolish supplementary investigation rights, he said the party is "stoking public anxiety by making it seem as if protections for victims have disappeared," and pointed out that the claim that only the prosecution's direct investigative powers can protect the public is "false propaganda that disguises prosecutorial power as public safety."
Han said, "The People Power Party must stop blocking a working National Assembly and prosecution reform any longer." He added, "We will do everything possible to ensure that bills for the public interest and reform are passed without disruption at today's plenary session."
