Drunk Driving Put on Notice During Vacation Season... Police Launch Nationwide Crackdown on the 31st

[Financial News] Police will launch a nationwide nighttime crackdown on drunk driving on the 31st to prevent such offenses during the summer vacation season.
The National Police Agency said on the 30th that it will carry out a nationwide drunk driving crackdown at night on the 31st, as outdoor activities and travel to vacation destinations are expected to rise sharply with the peak summer holiday season.
The operation will take place on Friday night, just before the weekend, when many vehicles are expected to head to vacation spots. It is intended to prevent drunk driving during the festive holiday period and to reinforce the message that drunk driving is enforced at any time and in any place.
Police have selected 733 enforcement sites, including resorts and local entertainment districts where drunk driving is likely. They plan to deploy 4,225 officers, including traffic police and local police, as well as 1,580 patrol cars. To improve the effectiveness of the crackdown, mobile enforcement teams will also be used to change locations unexpectedly at regular intervals.
To prevent drunk driving accidents, the National Police Agency will conduct nationwide crackdowns every Friday for two months, from the 1st through Aug. 31. Separately, each Metropolitan Police Agency is also carrying out nationwide crackdowns twice a week, while local routine and surprise enforcement is being maintained.
A National Police Agency official said, "No one should ever get behind the wheel, even for a moment, while caught up in the festive mood of the vacation season." The official added, "We ask for the public's active cooperation in eradicating drunk driving, which threatens not only drivers themselves but also the lives and families of others."
