[Financial News] As extreme volatility and a prolonged downturn continue in the domestic stock market, broadcaster and international lawyer Seo Dong-ju is drawing sympathy from individual investors after revealing a text exchange with her husband, who decided to leave the market.
On the 28th, Seo posted a screenshot of a mobile messenger conversation with her husband on social media, along with a short caption that read, "The day my husband decided to leave this war-like domestic stock market."
In the conversation, Seo suggested diversifying investments and wrote, "You should only buy ETFs worth 500,000 won each, in KOSPI and Nasdaq. I'll handle individual stocks."
Her husband replied, "I don't want to do stocks anymore. You do it and I'll give you the money," and "I'm done for. You go ahead first," humorously yet bitterly expressing his intention to exit the domestic stock market.
The exchange is drawing attention as a clear example of the so-called "escape from the domestic stock market" trend, in which individual investors, worn down by the recent weakness in Korean equities, decide to leave the market.
Seo herself has also revealed through her YouTube channel and other platforms that she bought SK hynix shares, while disclosing steep losses. Her average purchase price for SK hynix was around 2.5 million won, but with the closing price on the 28th falling to around 1.55 million won, her estimated loss rate was about 38%.
Meanwhile, Seo remarried in June last year to a non-celebrity man four years her junior and has since started a family.
