Police Seek Arrest Warrant for Man in His 50s Over Gangbuk Officetel Murder

[Financial News] Police have requested an arrest warrant for a man in his 50s on suspicion of stabbing a woman in her 50s to death at an officetel in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul.
The Seoul Gangbuk Police Station said on the 29th that it had sought an arrest warrant for a man identified as A on charges of murder and violating the Narcotics Control Act.
A was taken into emergency custody on the 28th after allegedly attacking a woman in her 50s, identified as B, with a knife at an officetel in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu, causing her death.
According to police, the case was first reported to Seongnam Sujeong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province the previous day. After confirming CCTV footage showing A walking around with blood on him, police tracked him down and arrested him. At around 1:45 a.m., officers went with A to the crime scene and confirmed that B had died, then transferred the case to the Seoul Gangbuk Police Station, which has jurisdiction over the area.
A tested positive for both methamphetamine and cannabis in a preliminary drug test. He initially refused the drug test, citing a bodily function issue, but later admitted to using drugs after the field test came back positive. However, he has avoided saying when or where he used them, and he is also refusing to make any statement about the murder charge. Police have requested a detailed analysis from the National Forensic Service.
At the crime scene, investigators found items believed to have been used in the attack, including a knife and a hammer. Additional substances suspected to be cannabis and methamphetamine were also found among A's belongings.
Police said their investigation found that the two were not related. They plan to examine their relationship and the exact motive for the crime through phone forensics and other methods.
