Police refer Yoon over election law violation for denying Kim Keon-hee stock manipulation allegations

[Financial News] Former President Yoon Suk-yeol has been referred to prosecutors on suspicion of making false statements in connection with allegations that Kim Keon-hee was involved in stock manipulation.
The special investigation team handling cases transferred from the three special counsels at the National Police Agency said on the 29th that it had sent Yoon Suk-yeol to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office without detention on suspicion of violating the Public Official Election Act by making false statements.
Yoon is accused of making false statements for the purpose of winning the election after being asked about allegations that Kim Keon-hee was involved in stock manipulation at Deutsche Motors during presidential candidate debates held from Oct. 15, 2021, to Feb. 21, 2022. He reportedly said, "I only suffered losses, so I cut ties with that person," and "Kim Keon-hee did not participate in stock manipulation."
The special investigation team concluded that the allegations were substantiated after reviewing the facts and relevant precedents, and referred the case to prosecutors. Although the team was disbanded the previous day, the investigation had already been completed at the team level, and only the referral procedure was carried out on the day, according to sources.
After receiving a total of 192 cases from the three special counsels in December last year, the special investigation team merged overlapping cases and reclassified them into 137 cases, then carried out an intensive investigation for about eight months. As a result, it closed 121 cases in total, including 16 referrals to prosecutors, 54 transfers to other agencies, and 51 cases not referred or not filed.
