According to Cucurella's Instagram on the 29th, he posted a photo of de la Fuente's face, with the coach holding the World Cup trophy, tattooed on his left arm, along with the message, "I kept my promise."
Cucurella had previously promised to turn de la Fuente's face into a tattoo if Spain won the tournament.
Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in extra time in the final on the 20th to claim its second World Cup title and its first in 16 years since the South Africa tournament in 2010. Once the victory was confirmed, attention turned to whether Cucurella would follow through on his promise.
After the match, Cucurella was asked about his tattoo plans. He said he had not yet decided on the timing or location, but added that it would probably need to be somewhere visible since people would keep asking about it. He also asked fans for ideas on where to place the tattoo.
De la Fuente reportedly said the players may have made a mistake, but he believed they were serious people and would keep their word. He also joked, "I'm not so ugly that I need to get a tattoo in a place no one can see," and said he was proud of the players for honoring their promises.
Cucurella started all eight matches in the tournament and helped Spain win the title unbeaten. Spain recorded seven clean sheets during the competition.
