[Financial News, São Paulo, Brazil = Choi Jong-geun]Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun said on the 28th local time that there is still a long way to go, as Hyundai Motor Company's sales in Brazil surpassed 200,000 units this year. He said this while expressing his determination to expand the company's market share in the country.
Chung made the remark at the Korea-Brazil business roundtable held at a hotel in São Paulo, Brazil, on the occasion of President Lee Jae-myung's state visit. He was asked about Hyundai's sales outlook in Brazil and his overall view.
Chung also noted, "China is aggressively going after the market these days." The comment suggested both caution over the strong push by Chinese automakers such as BYD in the South American market and a determination to further strengthen Hyundai's position in Brazil.
According to the Brazilian Automobile Dealers Association, Hyundai Motor Company's sales in Brazil reached 203,579 units last year. The company has maintained strong momentum, surpassing 200,000 units in sales for three consecutive years since 2024.
Hyundai Motor Company first entered the Brazilian market in 1992 and began operating its plant in Piracicaba, São Paulo state, in 2012.
The Piracicaba plant produces the locally strategic compact hatchback HB20 and the compact sport utility vehicle Hyundai Creta.
