Jung Sung-sik: "December 3 to Be Designated as National Sovereignty Day... Constitutional Revision to Gain Momentum Next Year"

[Financial News] Speaker of the National Assembly Jung Sung-sik said on the 28th that December 3, the day of former President Yoon Suk Yeol's martial law crisis, will be designated as "National Sovereignty Day," and that discussions on constitutional revision will be fully launched next year.
At his first press briefing since taking office, held that day at Sarangjae Hall of the National Assembly, Jung said, "The National Assembly will support the democracy defended by the people through institutions," adding, "We will designate December 3, the day the people saved the Constitution and democracy through their dedication, as National Sovereignty Day."
He also stressed, "We will activate the legislative expo and the petition system so that the voices of the people are delivered vividly to the National Assembly." The legislative expo is held around November, together with a legislative policy proposal contest co-hosted by Financial News and the National Assembly Research Service (NARS).
On constitutional revision, he said that next year is the "golden time" and promised to form a special committee on constitutional amendment of the National Assembly through bipartisan talks. He also explained that he would launch a constitutional amendment advisory committee directly under the Speaker to organize the roadmap and agenda for revision.
He also announced measures to speed up the handling of livelihood-related legislation. Jung promised to set up a "livelihood legislation processing week" to quickly pass bills directly tied to people's lives and safety, in order to expedite the economic bills discussed by the bipartisan livelihood bill consultative body launched last year. On the last Friday of each month, bills discussed during that session or handled by the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee will be processed within the same session.
