Today’s High of 38 Degrees Celsius: "Extreme Heat" ... "Life-Threatening Level" [Nationwide Heat Wave]

[Financial News] Extreme heat will continue on the 28th, with the maximum perceived temperature in parts of South Jeolla Province and the Yeongnam region soaring above 38 degrees Celsius. The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) urged people to suspend or delay outdoor activities and outdoor work except for essential duties.
According to the KMA, daytime highs across the country will range from 32 to 38 degrees Celsius, similar to or slightly higher than the previous day’s 28.5 to 38.1 degrees.
The KMA forecast that in Gwangyang, South Jeolla Province; central Daegu; Gyeongsan, Goryeong, and north-central Gyeongju in North Gyeongsang Province; and central Yangsan, Gimhae, Miryang, Uiryeong, Changnyeong, and Hapcheon in South Gyeongsang Province, where a severe heat alert has been issued, the maximum perceived temperature will rise to 38 degrees Celsius or the actual temperature will reach 39 degrees or higher.
The KMA advised that the heat in these areas is at a "life-threatening level" and recommended immediately suspending or postponing outdoor activities and outdoor work. People should move to air-conditioned facilities or heat shelters, drink plenty of water, and check on the safety of elderly people and other vulnerable groups nearby. If symptoms of heat-related illness appear, they should call the 119 emergency number immediately.
Heat wave warnings have also been issued for most other parts of the country. The maximum perceived temperature is expected to reach at least 33 degrees Celsius, and above 35 degrees in much of the southern region. Fields, roads, and outdoor work sites may feel even hotter than places equipped with weather observation instruments, so caution is needed.
Rising electricity use due to the heat could also increase the risk of air conditioner fire or power outages. Livestock farms should run fans and misting systems to lower the temperature inside barns, while outdoor work sites should provide cool drinking water and rest areas.
Showers are expected in some areas. From the morning through 6 p.m. on the day, showers are forecast in central and southern Gangwon, northern North Chungcheong, and central and northern North Gyeongsang. In northern Gangwon, the Chungnam area, and North Jeolla Province, there may be brief drizzles of less than 0.1 mm in the morning.
Temperatures may temporarily dip while the showers fall, but once the rain stops, the heat is expected to continue as higher humidity pushes temperatures back up. In areas hit by showers, strong gusts and thunder and lightning are possible, and rainfall amounts may vary widely even within the same region.
