Gulf states and Muslim World League strongly condemn drone attack targeting Saudi Arabia

[Financial News] The member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Muslim World League (MWL) have strongly condemned an attempted drone attack by pro-Iranian militias in Iraq against Saudi Arabia, saying they showed full solidarity and support for Saudi Arabia's security and sovereignty, Arab News reported on the 27th local time.
According to Saudi authorities, all drones launched by pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, targeting oil facilities in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province and key sites in the Riyadh area, were intercepted and neutralized before reaching their targets.
Jassem Al Budaiwi, secretary-general of the GCC, described the attempted attack as "a dangerous escalation" and criticized it as a direct violation of international law and a direct threat to regional security and stability. He said the GCC fully supports all measures taken by the Saudi government to protect Saudi sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Major Gulf states also issued firm statements. The Kuwait Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the attack was a violation of Saudi sovereignty and a breach of the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 2817. It added, "Saudi Arabia's security is inseparable from the security of Kuwait and the entire GCC," reaffirming its full support.
The government of Bahrain said the attack was an attempt to threaten the global energy supply chain and undermine efforts to ease tensions. It also strongly urged the Iraqi government to "place all weapons under state control and take steps to ensure Iraqi territory is not used as a base for attacks on neighboring countries."
Oman, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Syria and Palestine also issued condemnation statements and called for an immediate halt to actions that threaten regional peace. The MWL also praised the swift response of Saudi air defense forces and issued a strong criticism. Mohammed Al Issa, secretary-general of the MWL, described the raid as "a despicable and criminal attack that violates religious values and international humanitarian law," and expressed solidarity with all measures taken to protect Saudi Arabia's security, sovereignty and the safety of its people.
