Police on Jeon Han-gil's Alleged False Information Spreading: "Not a Difficult Case... We Will Wrap It Up Quickly"

[Financial News] Police said they view the case involving YouTuber Jeon Han-gil, formerly a Korean history instructor, whose real name is Jeon Yu-kwan, over allegations of spreading false claims, including rumors that President Lee Jae-myung had an extramarital child, as "not a difficult case" and plan to conclude it as soon as possible.
Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Park Jeong-bo said at a regular press briefing on the 27th that he had held close discussions with the parties involved and listened to the difficulties facing the petrochemical industry. He added that the government also discussed support measures.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Metropolitan Criminal Investigation Unit questioned Jeon, who is under suspicion of defamation under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, on the 23rd. It was the fourth time Jeon had been questioned by police, following sessions on February 12 and 27, and April 1.
Before his fourth police questioning, Jeon held a press conference and denied the main allegations. At the time, he called the case "a baseless complaint and political retaliation" and stressed, "I will prove my innocence during the investigation."
Jeon is accused of spreading false claims on his YouTube channel since last year, alleging that President Lee had amassed slush funds to flee overseas and passed military secrets to China. He also raised rumors of an extramarital child between Lee and Kim Hyun-ji, the first senior presidential secretary at the Blue House, and made remarks to the effect that "if a bounty were placed on President Lee, many people would step forward," prompting complaints from the Democratic Party of Korea and others.
Police are in the final stages of investigating Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Kim Byung-gi, who faces 13 allegations.
Commissioner Park said, "When the time comes, I think the investigation will be wrapped up. It does not seem to be time yet," adding, "The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Public Investigation Unit is handling the case, and I have been told they are working hard to bring it to a close."
On the possibility of securing Kim's custody, he explained, "We can only consider that after a decision is made on whether to send the case to prosecutors. There are many allegations, so there is a lot to review."
As for the incident in which the vehicle carrying Jung Chung-rae, a contender for the Democratic Party of Korea leadership, was damaged, police have completed questioning and are now examining the motive behind the act.
Regarding allegations that the Korea Football Association improperly intervened in the appointment process of former national team coach Hong Myung-bo, Park said, "Looking at the procedure for selecting the national team coach, the Strengthening Committee selects the candidates and sends them to the board, which then makes the final decision. We are investigating the committee and board officials, and we will move as quickly as possible to conclude the case."
