Newsis 【Financial News Seoul·Brasilia (Brazil) = Reporters Seong Seok-woo and Choi Jong-geun】 President Lee Jae-myung, currently on a tour of the United States and South America, presided over a meeting of senior presidential aides via video conference in Brasilia on the 26th (local time) and checked the preparations for the opening of the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency.
Cheong Wa Dae Senior Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung announced at a briefing on the same day that President Lee presided over the 41st meeting of senior presidential aides via video conference in Brasilia. This is the second virtual meeting of senior presidential aides held during a tour, following the meeting in Italy during the previous European tour.
During the closed-door meeting, President Lee received a report from the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs on the preparations for the opening of the agency and emphasized, "It is important that the distinction between public and private affairs and the principle of putting public interest before private interest are well observed within the public service. " He then urged that every effort be made to ensure the opening of the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency.
President Lee also instructed the Office of the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs to faithfully perform its role of monitoring whether the self-correcting oversight functions of each ministry are operating properly. The intent is that the Blue House must verify whether the monitoring system is functioning correctly so that each ministry can inspect and rectify problems on its own.
Regarding the role of the Blue House staff, he emphasized, "The primary duty of the Blue House staff is not to inspect the work of each ministry, but to create an environment where ministries can work properly. " He added, "If execution is the responsibility of the ministries, the Blue House must do the work of the brain," stating that they "must devote themselves to conceiving new initiatives that cannot be accomplished within the conventional system.
" At the meeting, reports were also presented on measures to counter false and fabricated information, eradicate illegal fishing by Chinese vessels near the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the West Sea, and stabilize the supply chain for key minerals. President Lee stated that relevant agencies need to respond decisively to cases where public opinion is distorted by false or fabricated information.
He ordered a thorough response to the issue of illegal fishing by Chinese vessels near the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the West Sea and pointed out the need to establish a standing response agency regarding the stabilization of the supply chain for critical minerals.
In addition, citing his conversation with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, President Lee emphasized the need for public discourse on an AI-centric society and the expansion of universal AI education opportunities. He also called for finding ways to alleviate income polarization by creating opportunities for sharing in new areas of growth.
