Moon Seong-hun, vice president in charge of hardware at Samsung Electronics' Mobile Experience Division (MX Division), said this at a briefing on foldable hardware innovation held in London, UK, on the 23rd local time. He added that "through end-to-end innovation, we have evolved the display from a simple component into a core element that completes the entire product experience."
Moon said, "Flex Titanium technology reduced the display module thickness by about 10%, creating more internal space and opening up opportunities to use space more efficiently." He explained that this allowed the company to build a larger battery than in the previous model and strengthen the design of heat-dissipation components.
He also emphasized that the company succeeded in creating a panel that can fold and unfold freely to suit a foldable smartphone while preserving the durability of titanium through Flex Titanium technology. To achieve this, Samsung chose a titanium plate and a titanium alloy film.
Moon said, "The titanium plate effectively disperses external pressure and impact while helping keep the display surface more uniform." He added, "Through Samsung's ultra-precise processing and sophisticated heat-treatment technology, we made the titanium alloy technology as thin as about one-third the thickness of a human hair, while also securing durability that can withstand long-term use."
The Galaxy Z8 series has also seen major improvements in battery use. Samsung has introduced a silicon-carbon battery for the first time in its new foldable models, significantly increasing battery capacity. In fact, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra battery has a capacity of 5,000 milliampere-hours (mAh), a sharp increase from the previous model's 4,400mAh. Charging technology has also been upgraded, with 45-watt ultra-fast charging applied to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 for the first time in a foldable phone.
Moon said, "The internal space secured through Flex Titanium technology and the high energy density of the silicon-carbon battery have together taken battery performance and capacity to a new level."
Moon explained, "We optimized each charging system according to the battery structure and form factor of each product." He added that the design enables faster charging while effectively controlling heat, and maintains stable performance over a long period.
Moon also hinted that Samsung may expand the use of silicon-carbon batteries in future smartphone models. He said, "We launched these after evaluating their stable operation in both high and low temperatures over a long period, and we applied them to the Galaxy Z8 series because they met our stringent standards." He added, "In future product design, we plan to actively use silicon-carbon batteries in products that we believe customers will like after considering everything comprehensively."
Attention is also being paid to the possibility that Privacy Display technology, first applied to the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra released this year, could be introduced in future foldable phones.
Moon said, "We did not apply Privacy Display because we placed value on the Galaxy Z8 series' durability and its thin, lightweight design." He added, "In future product design, we plan to actively use silicon-carbon batteries in products that we believe customers will like after considering everything comprehensively."
