[Financial News] The amount Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, must pay Noh So-young, head of Art Center Nabi, in their divorce property division was set at 944 billion won in the remanded appeals trial. Noh's share of the couple's jointly accumulated assets was reduced from 35% to 33.3%.
The Family Division 1 of the Seoul High Court, presided over by Judge Lee Sang-joo, ruled on the 24th that Chey must pay Noh 944 billion won in cash as property division in the remanded appeals ruling in their divorce case. The court also ordered him to pay 5% annual late-payment interest from the day after the ruling becomes final until the full amount is repaid.
The court recognized Noh's contribution to the formation of the couple's joint assets at 33.3%, or one-third of the total. As a result, the property division amount for Noh was reduced by more than 430 billion won from the 1.3808 trillion won awarded in the previous appeals ruling before the Supreme Court sent the case back.
The court also valued the SK shares, the main asset subject to division, based on April 16, 2024, when the previous appeals trial concluded, rather than the current price at the time of the remanded ruling.
After the ruling, Chey's legal representative told reporters, "The divorce was finalized last year with the Supreme Court's decision after nearly 20 years of marriage dissolution proceedings, and today's remanded ruling on property division was handed down. Chairman Chey Tae-won feels sorry for causing concern to many people throughout this process. We will give our detailed position on the ruling after carefully reviewing the written decision."
Noh's side left the Seoul High Court building without answering the same question.
