DPK Says It Is Time to Deliver Results on Criminal Procedure Act Revision

[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) said on the 24th that it intends to reach a final revision of the Criminal Procedure Act of the Republic of Korea, which includes the complete abolition of prosecutors' supplementary investigative powers, as soon as possible.
Han Byung-do, acting leader and floor leader of the DPK, said at a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly that day, "The complete separation of investigation and prosecution is a state task of the Lee Jae Myung administration and a firm principle of the DPK." He added, "The launch of the Public Prosecution Office and the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency is now just a little more than two months away. We no longer have time to hesitate." Han said, "The DPK will gather consensus at today's general meeting of lawmakers and quickly complete the legislation to bring the long journey of prosecution reform to a close."
Earlier, the DPK had planned to hold a bill subcommittee meeting at the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee this week to produce a final version of the Criminal Procedure Act. However, disagreements within the party over issues such as police oversight, strengthening investigative capacity, and victim protection have slowed the process. The party leadership is expected to hold a general meeting of lawmakers this afternoon to build consensus and, as early as next week, pass the revision at a full Senate session.
