[Financial News] Bank of Korea Governor Shin Hyun-song reported assets worth 8.2 billion won. This was the first asset disclosure since he took office, and most of his holdings were found to consist of real estate and deposits.
According to the 'July ad hoc asset registration' released on the 24th by the Public Service Ethics Committee in the Government, Shin's total assets were listed at 8,224,090,000 won.
Real estate accounted for the largest share of his assets, totaling 3,589,360,000 won. The Donghyeon Apartment in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, under Shin's name, was reported at 1,509,000,000 won. The D Palace officetel in Jongno District, Seoul, jointly owned with his spouse, was valued at 1.8 billion won. An apartment in Chicago, Illinois, United States, under his spouse's name, was also reported at 280,360,000 won.
His deposits totaled about 4.5 billion won. Shin reported 1,174,250,000 won in deposits, while his spouse reported 3,282,380,000 won. Their eldest son was found to hold 148,890,000 won in deposits and 29,190,000 won in overseas stocks.
At his National Assembly confirmation hearing in March, Shin reported assets of 8,241,020,000 won. The latest filing was prepared as of April 21, shortly after he took office, so some asset disposals completed later appear not to have been fully reflected.
Shin is currently said to be selling foreign-currency assets held by himself and his spouse, while also proceeding with the disposal of properties other than the apartment in Gangnam District where his mother lives.
