[Financial News] Kim Seon-tae, a former civil servant at Chungju-si, said he once held Samsung Electronics shares bought at 58,000 won and later sold them.
On the 23rd, the official YouTube channel of Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) released an interview with Kim, who will appear in the new variety show "Don Seon-tae Success Story."
In the video, Kim referred to the stock account he had revealed in a broadcast in October 2022. He recalled, "I was a major shareholder in Samsung Electronics at the time. I held more than 1,000 shares at around 58,000 won," adding, "I had sold my house, lived in a rental, and put everything into it." He also held shares in SK Telecom, Naver and Kakao.
Kim said he eventually sold all of his Samsung Electronics shares at 62,000 won. "You may not remember, but the stock had been moving sideways for a very long time. After more than two years, I got so frustrated that I couldn't take it anymore," he said. "And at the time, domestic stocks kept splitting and listing separately. It really irritated me. It felt like they were blocking the upside, so I said, 'The local market is hopeless,' and sold everything."
As of the closing price on the 23rd, Samsung Electronics stood at 270,000 won per share. If Kim had held the 1,000 Samsung Electronics shares he bought at 58,000 won until now, his initial investment of 58 million won would have returned 365.52 percent, generating a profit of 212 million won.
Meanwhile, Kim began his public service career as a ninth-grade civil servant in 2016 and was promoted to sixth grade at the end of 2023, about seven years later.
While working in public relations at Chungju-si, he built the "Chungju Man" character after his YouTube channel drew about 970,000 subscribers.
He retired in February and launched his personal YouTube channel, "Kim Seon-tae." He is now active as a YouTuber.
