Second Comprehensive Special Prosecutor Team Extends Investigation Period to Next Month 23... 30 More Days of Probing

[Financial News] The investigation period for the Special Prosecutor's Task Force led by Kwon Chang-young has been extended to next month 23.
In a notice to the press on the 23rd, the task force said, "We received approval notice for the extension of the investigation period from the presidential office today," adding, "The investigation period has been extended until August 23."
Earlier, the National Assembly passed a bill allowing the task force's investigation period to be extended once more by 30 days. In response, the task force requested approval for the extension from President Lee Jae-myung on the 21st.
As a result, the task force will continue its investigation for six months after launching the probe on February 25. It will also be able to increase the number of dispatched officials and begin investigating allegations of obstruction of audits and aiding a suspect's escape.
During the extended period, the task force must wrap up major cases, including not only the allegations surrounding the relocation of the presidential residence, but also involvement in the December 3 Martial Law, changes to and cancellation of the Seoul–Yangpyeong Expressway route, and allegations of interference in the Unification Church investigation.
On this day, the special prosecutor questioned former Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Won Hee-ryong over the cancellation of the Yangpyeong Expressway project, while the previous day it summoned First Lady Kim Keon Hee and questioned her on charges including brokerage-related bribery over the relocation of the presidential residence.
