[Financial News] KCC improved the work environment at CJ CheilJedang's Busan plant by applying a safety solution based on Color Universal Design (CUD).
According to industry sources on the 23rd, the improvement project was carried out as part of a memorandum of understanding signed last year between KCC and CJ CheilJedang to enhance color-based environmental design. Since the agreement, the two companies have jointly studied a CUD manual to help build a safety culture at CJ CheilJedang's sites.
CUD is a design method that arranges color, brightness and saturation so that anyone, including people who have difficulty distinguishing colors, can understand information about spaces and objects. Based on its accumulated R&D capabilities in environmental color research, KCC Color Design Center analyzed the work environment and usage characteristics of the Busan plant together with CJ CheilJedang and established a safety color system suited to the site.
Based on this, CUD was applied to key areas where worker movement is concentrated, such as central intersections, pedestrian guide lines, crosswalks and emergency evacuation routes. Color contrast, brightness and saturation were strengthened so that movement directions and hazardous areas could be identified at a glance, and a consistent color system was also applied to floor and wall safety markings.
CUD was also implemented with high-functionality paints, including the photoluminescent coating Lumisafe and anti-slip paint, to strengthen on-site safety functions. The goal was to help workers easily recognize movement paths and hazards while also enabling the site to respond to unexpected situations such as power outages and slip accidents through functional coatings.
KCC and CJ CheilJedang plan to gradually expand the safety color design to other sites based on the results from the Busan plant. A KCC official said, "We will continue to provide customized safety design consulting for various industrial sites using fire-resistant, anti-slip, photoluminescent and high-visibility products."
