KT CEO Park Yoon-young says media affiliate merger is under review, but no decision yet

[Financial News] KT Corporation CEO Park Yoon-young said that the company is considering the possibility of integrating its media affiliates, but no specific decision has been made.
After attending a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea and Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyung-hoon and the CEOs of the three major telecom companies at SKT's headquarters in Jung District, Seoul, on the 23rd, Park told reporters, "We are thinking about it as the times are changing, but nothing has been decided yet."
The industry had speculated that Park was reviewing a merger of KT's media affiliates, including Genie Music and Millie's Library. Questions were also raised over the merger between TVING and Wavve, with some noting that KT Studio Genie, a major shareholder in TVING, had not agreed to the deal, leaving the transaction stalled.
In response, Park said, "We have not received any official request," adding, "As the content market is changing, there are many things to consider in determining which position would benefit the domestic industry, the company and its partners."
On Physical AI, he emphasized the role of network infrastructure. Park said, "At a broad level, Physical AI consists of robots and the infrastructure that delivers information to them, and we are on the infrastructure side," adding that KT will take part in the government's pilot project by using its more than 3,500 telecom offices nationwide like edge data centers.
Regarding satellite cooperation, he explained, "I raised the issue to encourage communication on whether there are areas where the public and private sectors can work together for overall optimization," and added, "Discussions on building a global alliance are still at an early stage."
