India is one of Samsung Electronics' key smartphone production bases and one of the world's largest smartphone markets. The company aims to strengthen its market leadership with AI features and a differentiated foldable experience. According to local media reports on the 23rd, Park Jong-beom, head of Samsung Electronics' Southwest Asia operations, said, "The achievements of seven generations of foldable smartphones once again prove Samsung's leadership in the foldable market it pioneered.
" He added, "Our differentiated design and personalized Galaxy AI experience are winning over consumers, and these new products are also manufactured in India and developed based on local R&D capabilities, reflecting consumer needs. " Samsung Electronics said the new lineup was designed based on seven generations of foldable technology development and user feedback. The products have been launched in three models to suit different consumer needs. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a model focused on content viewing and multitasking.
It weighs 201 grams and comes with a 4,800mAh battery and a 50-megapixel dual camera. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the top-tier model, featuring an 8-inch large display and a 200-megapixel main camera. It is aimed at content creation and high-performance tasks. 1 mm thick.
Its slim design, AI-based Flex Window feature, and 50-megapixel camera enhance portability and ease of use. Samsung Electronics has equipped the lineup with a range of AI features, including Google's generative AI Gemini. Users can manage schedules, search for locations, make reservations, and summarize documents with fewer steps by using voice commands or on-screen information.
The company also introduced new features, Now Brief and Now Nudge, which suggest information tailored to users' daily routines. Security has also been strengthened. Samsung Electronics said Samsung Knox and Samsung Knox Vault protect devices and personal data.
It added a dashboard that lets users check AI activity at a glance, along with privacy alerts, so they can manage AI features more transparently. With the launch of the new lineup, Samsung Electronics plans to expand foldable sales in India's premium smartphone market. In particular, as the company has recently strengthened financial support such as long-term installment programs, it aims to improve accessibility to foldable devices and sustain growth.
Industry watchers say Apple is also preparing to launch a foldable device, raising expectations that competition in India's premium foldable market will intensify further.
