[Financial News] Mirae Asset Global Investments' flagship overseas covered call exchange-traded fund (ETF), the TIGER US Nasdaq 100 Target Daily Covered Call ETF, has surpassed 2 trillion won in net assets, becoming the largest overseas covered call ETF listed in Korea.
According to Korea Exchange on the 23rd, the ETF's net assets stood at 2.2234 trillion won as of the previous day. About two years after its listing in June 2024, it became the first overseas covered call ETF to exceed 2 trillion won in net assets.
The product invests in the US Nasdaq 100 index as its underlying asset and combines it with a daily covered call strategy. It is a monthly distribution ETF that seeks growth through technology stocks while using premiums earned from selling call options as a source for payouts.
Its performance has also been steady. Over the roughly two years since listing, it has paid distributions at an annual rate of about 15%, and its cumulative return including distributions reached 54.3%. The monthly payout rose from 120 won in July 2024, its first year on the market, to 151 won in June this year, an increase of about 26%.
The recent rise in demand for stable cash flow amid greater stock market volatility has also been cited as a driver of fund inflows. Because covered call ETFs invest in the underlying asset while also selling call options to secure option premiums, they are drawing attention as an alternative for investors seeking a certain level of cash flow.
Within the ETF industry, interest in overseas covered call ETFs that can pursue both growth and income is expected to remain strong as high interest rates and heightened volatility continue. In particular, analysts say fund inflows into related products are being sustained as demand for US technology stocks converges with a preference for monthly dividends.
Lee Jung-hwan, head of the Strategic ETF Management Division at Mirae Asset Global Investments, said, "Surpassing 2 trillion won in net assets reflects investor demand for both growth and stable cash flow." He added, "We will continue to provide a range of investment solutions through differentiated covered call strategies."
