Signs of False Voter Turnout Entries Detected; NEC Faces Additional Raid [Supplement]

[Financial News] The Joint Prosecutor-Police Investigation Task Force, which is probing a shortage of ballot papers during the June 3 local elections, has uncovered signs of false voter turnout entries and launched raids on the National Election Commission of the Republic of Korea (NEC) and other offices.
In a media notice on the 23rd, the task force said it was conducting searches of the NEC and the election commissions in Songpa, Gangnam and Seocho districts from the morning to secure additional evidence.
During the investigation, the task force confirmed signs that officials at the NEC and the Gyeonggi Provincial Election Commission falsely entered voter turnout figures. It is also carrying out searches of those involved on charges of falsifying public electronic records and obstructing official duties.
The task force suspects that election officials entered false turnout data into a public institution's computer system and thereby interfered with election administration.
Earlier in the investigation into the ballot paper shortage, the task force is said to have detected signs that a working-level NEC employee arbitrarily altered computerized statistical figures in an attempt to conceal an error in the voter count entry.
