"A House I Turned Down for 1 Billion Won Is Now Worth 3.5 Billion"...Sayuri Regrets Missing a Gangnam Apartment and Says She Is Living on a Jeonse Lease

[Financial News] Japanese-born broadcaster Sayuri Fujita said rising real estate prices have made life difficult and expressed her frustration about living on a jeonse lease.
On the 22nd, a video titled "The Reality of Raising Children in Korea as a Foreigner" was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Yangrak 1beonji.'
In the video, Sayuri and Sam Hammington appeared and spoke with Choi Yang-rak about the difficulties of life in Korea.
Sayuri said, "These days, I feel it is hard to live in Korea because apartment prices are rising so much. They are going up frighteningly fast."
She added, "In Japan, prices are almost the same now as they were 20 years ago. When I first came to Korea, the base taxi fare was 1,900 won, but prices here keep rising."
In response, Choi Yang-rak asked, "If prices are stable and housing is affordable, why not just go to Japan?" Sayuri replied, "I am here because I like Korea."
Sam Hammington said, "I think this is a global problem," adding, "Australia is the same. Prices keep rising there too, and so do housing prices."
Sayuri, who said she is living on a jeonse lease in Banpo, Seoul, recalled, "When I lived in Samseong-dong 13 or 14 years ago, I moved in on a jeonse contract. But the landlord told me to buy the place for 1 billion won. I turned it down, saying, 'Where would I get 1 billion won?' Now it is worth 3.5 billion won."
She continued, "Jeonse is not easy either. You have to renew the contract again after two years, don't you? As the amount keeps going up, I have had to move into a smaller apartment. It is 10 pyeong smaller than the place I used to live in."
Meanwhile, in 2020, Sayuri gave birth to her son Zen after receiving a sperm donation while unmarried.
