[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung will hold a major public forum on real estate policy on the 23rd and hear public views directly on housing supply, finance and taxation. Along with academics and market experts, participants will also include people who represent voices from the real estate field, such as operators of mom cafes and real estate agents.
According to Cheong Wa Dae on the 21st, the forum is scheduled to run for 100 minutes starting at 10 a.m. on the 23rd. It will begin with the president's opening remarks, followed by the release of preliminary public feedback, presentations by experts in each field, an open discussion and the president's closing remarks.
The expert presentations will be divided into three areas: supply, finance and taxation. The supply session will be led by Professor Jin Mi-yun of Myongji University, the finance session by Kim Young-do, a researcher at KIF, and the tax session by Professor Kang Sung-hoon of Hanyang University.
A total of 140 people will attend the event, including officials from the government, academia, research institutes, the market, the media, industry, civic groups and the general public. Government participants will include officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the FSC and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The expert group will include representatives from the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, the Korea Institute of Public Finance, KIF and Real Estate R114. Media outlets will also send editorial writers and real estate desk heads.
A large number of public participants will also take part. In addition to construction associations, financial associations, builders and financial institutions, 75 people including real estate YouTubers, online community operators, real estate agents, civic and youth groups, and ordinary citizens will join the discussion.
Cheong Wa Dae said the forum is intended to share key issues in real estate policy with the public, gather views from the field and reflect them in future policy-making. Property taxes, including holding taxes and transaction taxes, are expected to be finalized through the forum, as early as the end of July and no later than early August. Earlier, Kim Yong-beom, Chief Presidential Secretary for Policy, stressed, "We are not doing this with a conclusion already decided. We will listen, hear and deliberate."
President Lee also said at the Cabinet meeting that day, "A major public forum on real estate will be held on the 23rd," adding, "To move beyond the disastrous real estate republic and toward stable housing for the people and productive economic development, we will humbly listen to the voices of our citizens and come up with feasible alternatives and measures."
