[Financial News] Song Young-gil, a DPK leadership contender, held a surprise lunch meeting with former Daegu Metropolitan City Mayor Hong Joon-pyo on the 21st.
Song posted a photo of the lunch on social media and wrote, "We shared the regret that if there had been no Shincheonji involvement in the People Power Party's 2021 presidential primary, Hong Joon-pyo, not Yoon Suk Yeol, would have become the presidential candidate."
He added, "After the presidential election, I heard a shocking story about a direct meeting and conversation between cult leader Lee Man-hee and senior Hong Joon-pyo. After cross-checking a few things, I will talk about it on air."
Earlier, MBC reported that 100,000 Shincheonji members had joined the People Power Party and helped Yoon win the presidential election. Song's move is being read as an effort to raise his profile as a leadership contender ahead of the party convention in August.
