[Financial News] People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo criticized President Lee Jae Myung on the 21st, saying, "He blocks ordinary people’s home loans and makes interest money through private lending." The remarks came after it was reported that Lee recently sold his Bundang apartment for 2.9 billion won and, in the process, placed a mortgage of about 1.7 billion won on the buyer.
Through social media that day, Ahn said, "Instead of making efforts to stabilize housing prices, the president is behaving like a predatory fish in the real estate market, disrupting it himself."
Ahn said, "Considering the usual ratio for the maximum claim amount, it appears he directly lent the buyer about 1.5 billion won and collected interest and late-payment damages as well." He added, "The Lee Jae Myung administration and commercial banks have cut lending in half, shattering the public’s dream of owning a home. For homes priced above 2.5 billion won, such as the president’s, bank loans are limited to just 200 million won."
He continued, "When it came time for the president to sell his own house, he used a clever trick. He lent money through private financing and opened the door to gap investment for the buyer." He added, "I never imagined that the president of a country would use the seller financing technique quietly used by ultra-high-end home sellers and make money from interest through private lending."
Ahn said, "Instead of making efforts to stabilize housing prices, the president is behaving like a predatory fish in the real estate market, disrupting it himself." He then asked, "Is this really acceptable? Are real estate regulations a shackle for the public and a tool for the president to bypass the rules?"
He also stressed, "Almost no one can buy a house worth nearly 3 billion won with cash. For ordinary people who need to use the proceeds from selling a home to buy the next one, the option of 'lending 1.5 billion won to the buyer' is simply impossible." He added, "It is a farce in which the president uses his privilege to avoid the rules he created while still profiting from them. We are really seeing every kind of loophole and trick."
