[Financial News] Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yun-cheol said on the 20th that, regarding investment in the United States under the Korea-U.S. tariff agreement, "We will carefully review the commercial viability of the first U.S. project and move forward with follow-up procedures."
At a ministerial meeting on external economic affairs held that day at the Government Complex Sejong, Koo said, "We will proceed based on the recently enacted Special Act on Strategic Investment between Korea and the United States and the Korea-U.S. Strategic Investment Corporation, which provide the framework for strategic investment."
Koo also said that, in relation to tariff measures being pursued by the United States, including a Section 301 investigation into overproduction and forced labor, "We will continue close consultations with the U.S. side and manage trade relations with the United States in a stable manner."
The meeting discussed recent trade issues with the United States and response measures, as well as plans to address major issues at the World Trade Organization (WTO), promote the plurilateral Green Economy Agreement (GEPA), and advance the Korea-Bangladesh Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). It also reviewed strategies for promoting a Korea-style artificial intelligence (K-AI) package centered on Official Development Assistance (ODA).
Regarding the K-AI package strategy, Koo said, "We will create future demand for AI and support our companies and technologies in expanding overseas."
The K-AI package is a new integrated ODA model that supports AI solutions, AI data centers, and renewable energy generation facilities in infrastructure built through the EDCF.
Koo said, "We have prepared project menus based on our technologies and components, focusing on seven key sectors where we have strengths, including water resources, health care, and culture." He added, "We plan to provide support by organically using a range of development cooperation tools, including the EDCF, KSP, MDB trust funds and co-financing, and development finance."
