[Financial News] Political attention is focused on the fact that President Lee Jae-myung followed the social network service (SNS) X account of Kim Bo-mi, a former Gangjin County council member who is running in the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) chairmanship race, just one day after she opened it. Kim drew attention on the 12th when she sharply criticized the party's mainstream 86 generation during her policy speech.
According to political circles on the 16th, Kim opened a new X account on the 12th. It was confirmed that President Lee followed the account the next day, on the 13th.
Kim drew attention after directly criticizing the so-called 86 generation, which is seen as the party's mainstream faction, during the DPK chairmanship candidates' policy speech held that day.
She targeted former party leader Jung Chung-rae, former party leader Song Young-gil, and Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, saying, "All three of the leading candidates began as members of the 386 generation and contributed to building democracy in South Korea, but they do not have the right to monopolize Korean politics for 40 or 50 years."
She added, "In a country that must become one of the world's top three AI powers, those who once fought with Molotov cocktails and rocks are still at the center of politics."
She also criticized former party leader Jung Chung-rae, saying, "Even as young people are leaving the Democratic Party, no one is taking responsibility, and the person who should be held accountable has stepped forward to run again."
Kim's remarks also drew strong attention online. A YouTube video of her policy speech has surpassed 1 million views, adding to the buzz.
The DPK will accept registrations for chairmanship and Supreme Council member candidates from the 16th to the 17th. It plans to finalize three chairmanship candidates and eight Supreme Council candidates through a preliminary primary on the 21st.
So far, five people have declared their intention to run in the chairmanship race, including Kim, former party leader Jung Chung-rae, former party leader Song Young-gil, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, and lawmaker Ko Min-jung.
