Public Hearing on Establishing a Unified Military Academy to Be Held, as Opinion Gathering Begins

[Financial News] The government, which announced a basic plan to establish a four-year unified military academy by integrating the Army, Navy, and Air Force academies, will hold a public hearing to gather opinions.
According to political circles on the 17th, the Defense Ministry is reviewing plans to hold a public hearing on the establishment of the unified military academy in the first or second week of next month. Under the Administrative Procedures Act, an agency planning to hold a public hearing must announce it at least 14 days in advance.
If the hearing takes place, the public may also have a chance to join discussions on one of the key issues: when to begin the unified admissions process for the academies. A Defense Ministry official said after the basic plan was announced on the 16th, "We plan to continue gathering opinions through various channels, including public hearings and policy briefings."
Winning over the alumni associations of the Army, Navy, and Air Force academies, which oppose the integration, is seen as a crucial task. The associations have already issued a joint statement, declaring that they will "mobilize every means and method to rise up together with the public."
Ahn Gyu-back is also said to be willing to meet directly with the alumni associations of each military academy to hear their views.
The integrated military academy is expected to be developed as a four-year program at Jaun-dae in Daejeon.
