[Financial News] On the 16th, President Lee Jae Myung publicly warned some Cabinet members and heads of public institutions, saying, "There are still people who do not know what they are supposed to do," and calling it "unacceptable." The remarks are seen as an effort to sharpen the sense of urgency in the civil service as the administration enters its second year and seeks to accelerate state policy implementation.
At the work report session he chaired at the Yeongbingwan State Guest House that day, Lee said the situation looked "much better than the first work report last time," but noted that some complacency and poor preparation remained.
Lee said, "Yesterday, I saw that even after being criticized during the last work report and embarrassed in front of others, there is still an agency head who does not know what he or she is doing," stressing that it was "unacceptable."
He added that even though these are the most important duties of an agency, failing to grasp even the basic outline is something that can never be tolerated.
Lee also said, "If there is anything that is still not fully understood at future work report sessions, I am warning you in advance to stay up all night if necessary and at least understand your own job before coming."
He asked, "People work so hard to pay taxes. How can you enjoy all the benefits from that money and still show no minimum interest in the laws and the duties entrusted to you by the public?"
He went on to say, "One hour of a public official is worth 52 million hours. Every action, judgment, and decision they make affects 52 million people." He added, "I was left wondering whether some people truly fail to recognize how serious that is. I believe there will be no such people going forward."
Lee also said, "I hope you will talk a lot about what you have done, what you need to report to the public, and what you plan to do next." He added, "I would like to hear more about what kind of world we will build and how we will build it."
