[Financial News] United States President Donald Trump said he would not set a specific deadline for negotiations with Iran, while continuing to press for an early agreement. He also reaffirmed his previous warning that, if talks fail to make progress, attacks could extend beyond military facilities to civilian infrastructure such as power plants and bridges.
After arriving in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on the 15th local time to attend an event at the U.S. Army War College, Trump told reporters, when asked whether there was a deadline before attacking Iran's bridges, "I don't like setting deadlines."
He added, "They know very well. They understand the situation well," and warned, "They would be better off doing the right thing."
Trump also raised the pressure in an interview with Fox News the previous day. He said that if a ceasefire agreement with Iran is not reached by next week, civilian infrastructure such as power plants and bridges could be added to the list of potential targets.
In fact, following Trump's orders, the U.S. military carried out airstrikes on Iranian military facilities in the Strait of Hormuz area for the fifth consecutive day through Tuesday. Notably, it also launched strikes in broad daylight, further increasing the intensity of military pressure.
