"I'll Buy You Cigarettes": Cheongju City Councilor Suspected of Having Sex With a Minor in a Car... Also Filmed It, Causing Shock

[Financial News] A member of the Cheongju City Council in North Chungcheong Province is under police investigation on suspicion of having sex with a minor.
According to police on the 15th, the Cheongju Cheongwon Police Station raided the office, residence, and home of Councilor A, 35, starting at 8:30 a.m. that day.
A is accused of meeting a minor identified as B, whom he met through a chat app, several times in vehicles and lodging facilities from October 2024 to October last year and engaging in inappropriate acts.
At the time, A allegedly lured B by saying, "I'll buy you cigarettes," then had sexual intercourse with her and also gave her money and gifts.
A is also suspected of filming and keeping a video of himself having sex with B. B's parents found the footage on their daughter's phone in February and reported the councilor to police.
Police reportedly learned during the process of confirming additional offenses that he was a sitting city councilor.
Police are now checking whether A had inappropriate meetings with other minors besides B. Investigators are also looking into whether additional videos were produced or stored. So far, there are no signs that sexual exploitation material was distributed.
Police plan to question A and determine the exact facts once digital forensics and analysis are completed.
Meanwhile, A is a first-term lawmaker from the People Power Party who was elected in the June 3 local elections.
