[Financial News] People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo urged Han Dong-hoon, an independent lawmaker, to "exclude the pro-Han 'Yeouido tow-truck crowd' when founding a party."
On the 15th, Ahn said on Facebook, "The 'han' of those who were scratched by the tow trucks will bring down 'Han (Dong-hoon)," adding that he was making the remark for that reason.
Ahn said he had watched the situation calmly after the press conference. "As expected, the behavior of the 'mouths' speaking out as Han's representatives was appalling," he noted.
He criticized them, saying, "The core issue was my testimony in court, and because the facts and evidence were clear, they were pouring energy into irrelevant smear tactics. Even though they belong to the same party, they are hurling personal attacks and slander for someone outside the party. They are even writing fiction based on fantasy, claiming that 'someone ordered the press conference.' It is almost pitiful."
He also claimed, "There were people who once worked with me but are now fiercely defending Han, as well as opportunists who criticized me in the morning and attacked Han in the afternoon. Among journalists, there were also some who joined in spreading falsehoods, defamed me, and called themselves pro-Han."
He went on to denounce them as "lightweight conduct, fixated not on the truth of who told it, but on fictional delusions."
Ahn said, "I said I support Han's effort to found a party," but added, "My sincere advice is this: please shake off people like that."
He continued, "I have seen many people who supported Han but later grew sick of and drifted away because of these tow-truck types. That shabby Yeouido tow-truck behavior could one day drive Han into a dead end."
Ahn warned, "Instead, value the people who have quietly worked with Han, those who quietly helped a candidate in the Buk-gu by-election, and those who returned to their places without seeking recognition. As long as the tow-truck crowd that keeps talking about being 'pro-Han' remains around Han, the resentment of those who were bitten and scratched by them will bring down Han (Dong-hoon)." He added, "Please keep this in mind."
Meanwhile, Ahn has recently been locked in a back-and-forth with Han over his testimony in court about the December 3 Martial Law declaration.
On the 8th, Ahn appeared as a witness in the trial over Choo Kyung-ho, the People Power Party floor leader at the time of martial law, who is accused of obstructing the vote to lift martial law. He testified, "I understand that the person who first notified People Power Party lawmakers to gather at the party headquarters rather than the National Assembly was Han Dong-hoon, who was party leader at the time." Han responded by calling it "false incitement."
Ahn then held a separate press conference on the 12th, formally opposing Han's return to the party and saying, "I ask that he not even come near our party anymore." His Facebook post on the day reignited the war of words between the two men.
