[Financial News] The Prosecutors' Office has ordered police to conduct a supplementary investigation into allegations that Kim Yong-man, founder and chairman of the noodle franchise Kimgane, embezzled hundreds of millions of won.
According to the legal community on the 14th, the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office sent back the embezzlement case involving Kim, which had been forwarded by police under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes, on the 9th.
The move is believed to reflect the prosecutors' view that the police investigation was somewhat insufficient to meet the requirements for indictment.
Earlier, Seongbuk Police Station sent Kim to prosecutors on the 15th of last month.
Kim is accused of privately using about 600 million won in company funds over roughly one year starting in January 2023.
Police believe he pocketed incentives and fees paid to headquarters by franchise ingredient suppliers and interior contractors.
Separately from this case, Kim was indicted on charges of attempting to sexually assault an employee. In May, he received a three-year prison sentence, suspended for five years, in the first trial.
