[Financial News] The Kim Keon Hee Special Prosecutor Team, led by special counsel Min Joung-kie, has asked the Supreme Court of Korea to postpone its ruling on Kim Keon Hee, who is accused of stock manipulation involving Deutsche Motors and other charges.
According to the legal community on the 14th, the special prosecutor team submitted a request to the Second Division of the Supreme Court of Korea, which is scheduled to rule on the 16th and is presided over by Justice Park Young-jae, asking it to delay the sentencing in Kim's case. She faces charges of violating the Financial Investment Services and Capital Markets Act, the Political Funds Act, and the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes.
The team said the reason was to submit an additional opinion brief reflecting the details of the ruling in the case of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was sentenced to two years in prison the previous day for violating the Political Funds Act.
Yoon, who is accused of receiving free opinion polls from political broker Myung Tae-kyun and being involved in the nomination of former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young-sun, received a prison sentence despite facing the same charges as Kim Keon Hee. Kim went through both the first and second trials, but was acquitted of that charge among the various allegations.
As the court has now found that charge guilty, the special prosecutor team is expected to submit its opinion brief in a bid to raise Kim's sentence through a last-minute reversal.
