[Financial News] A major auto race marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States will be held next month in the heart of Washington, D.C. Trump has personally promoted the event, saying he will turn Pennsylvania Avenue in front of The White House into a stage where race cars traveling at more than 300 km/h will speed by.
At a pre-event ceremony for the IndyCar race 'Freedom 250 Grand Prix' held at The White House on the 13th (local time), Trump said, "I invite all Americans to a once-in-a-lifetime special event."
He said, "This will be a new race unlike anything seen before," and added, "It will be one of the most memorable auto races the world has ever seen."
The race will take place in downtown Washington, D.C. on the 22nd and 23rd of next month. Trump emphasized, "The race cars will run along Pennsylvania Avenue at speeds of more than 190 miles per hour, or about 306 km/h," and said, "It will be a spectacle that will be remembered for a long time."
He also expressed strong confidence in the event's commercial appeal. Referring to the UFC event held at The White House on the 4th, he said it "posted higher ratings than any match in history" and claimed that "this auto race will also draw the highest ratings among events of its kind."
Trump also described how the event came together. He said Roger Penske's side had spent years lobbying Congress without success, but "after meeting me, everything was settled in about 15 minutes."
The event was attended by Sean Duffy, Secretary of Transportation; Roger Penske, chairman of Penske Corporation; Eric Shanks, CEO of Fox Sports; and Mark Reuss, president of General Motors (GM). Active IndyCar drivers Alex Palou, Felix Rosenqvist, and David Malukas also joined them.
Trump watched a demonstration of a rapid tire change, known as a "pit stop," with the attendees and checked preparations for the race.
