[Financial News] Police are launching a full-scale investigation into a case in which former Korea Football Association (KFA) president Jung Mong-gyu and former technical director Lee Im-saeng were additionally accused of improperly intervening in the appointment process of national team coach Hong Myung-bo.
On the 12th, the Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Metropolitan Investigation Unit at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said it will question the accuser on the 14th in a case filed by the civic group People's Livelihood Measures Committee for the Common People (S-Minwi) against former KFA president Jung and others. Kim Soon Hwan, secretary-general of S-Minwi, will be questioned as the accuser.
Earlier, S-Minwi filed a complaint with police on the 2nd against former chairman Jung, former director Lee and coach Hong on charges including coercion, intimidation, obstruction of business and breach of trust in the course of their duties.
S-Minwi said, "Chairman Jung and former director Lee threatened and coerced the technical committee during the process of appointing Coach Hong, obstructing its work," adding, "I understand that members of the technical committee felt threatened."
Regarding Coach Hong, it said, "It is a breach of trust to deceive people and receive a high salary despite being completely unqualified," and added, "Since this is taxpayer money, it should be recovered."
It also claimed, "We filed complaints against Chairman Jung and others in 2024 as well, but no conclusion has been reached," and "The decision had almost been made, but it was blocked from above at the time."
The Jongno Police Station in Seoul transferred a total of eight complaint and accusation cases related to the KFA, which had been under investigation, to the Financial Crime Investigation Unit on the 1st.
The Financial Crime Investigation Unit is currently consolidating and investigating complaints related to the alleged appointment of Coach Hong, as well as cases filed over the appointment process of Jürgen Klinsmann.
