[Financial News] The United States carried out another airstrike on Iran's missile bases and air defense systems, extending military action for a second straight day. The move comes in response to Iran's renewed attacks on civilian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, and tensions in the area are rising again.
On the 12th, local time, Barak Ravid, a reporter for the U.S. online media outlet Axios, said on X, formerly Twitter, that "the U.S. military carried out several strikes about an hour earlier against Iran's missile and air defense systems," citing a U.S. official.
Ravid also said the U.S. military struck small boats belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which had been operating near the Strait of Hormuz. The targets were reportedly fast boats that the IRGC has used to threaten civilian ships.
The latest U.S. airstrikes came a day after the previous attack, marking the second consecutive day of strikes. It was also the fourth U.S. attack on Iranian military targets since Iran resumed attacks on civilian vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz on the 7th.
In related news, Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported that 10 to 11 shells from the 'enemy' landed on Qeshm Island on Tuesday evening.
An Iranian official said the target was a military facility and that there were no casualties.
Qeshm Island, located in the Strait of Hormuz, is home to major military facilities, including an Iranian military radar surveillance base. As military clashes between the United States and Iran flare up again, the island has emerged as a key target.
