Police expand special investigation team in the Jang Yoon-gi case, appointing a superintendent-level chief

[Financial News] Police have expanded the existing special investigation team into a special investigation unit to swiftly determine the facts in the Jang Yoon-gi case, in which a high school girl was killed.
The National Office of Investigation at the National Police Agency said on the 11th that it had upgraded and reorganized the existing special investigation team into a special investigation unit as the scope of the probe widened, with the number of suspects under investigation increasing and multiple search and seizure operations being carried out.
The special investigation unit will operate with 41 members, up from the previous 27, after 14 additional personnel were added. Oh Dong-wook, head of investigations at the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency and a superintendent general, was appointed as the unit chief. Hong Jang-deuk, who had led the special investigation team, will move to the deputy chief position.
In addition to personnel from the National Police Agency's serious crime investigation division, the National Office of Investigation plans to deploy 14 more people, including members of the secondary victimization investigation team and the Digital Forensics Center.
It also separately designated a superintendent-level spokesperson to provide more systematic updates on the progress of the investigation.
An official from the National Office of Investigation emphasized, "We will conduct a thorough investigation so that there are no doubts at any stage of the process."
