[Financial News] Cuba, which has been suffering from chronic energy shortages, experienced its fourth major blackout of the year.
The Cuban Electric Union (UNE) said on X on the 10th that a "total shutdown of the national power system" occurred at around 4:30 p.m. local time.
As the United States steps up pressure on Cuba with tougher sanctions, the latest nationwide outage has deepened hardships for residents.
In mid-March, Cuba suffered two nationwide blackouts caused by the collapse of the power grid. Another large-scale outage followed in mid-May, mainly affecting the eastern region.
A major blackout also occurred on the 6th, but power was restored two days later on the 8th. Just five days later, another outage hit the country.
Cuba is reported to have been facing a severe energy crisis since January, after Nicolas Maduro was taken into custody in Venezuela.
With energy supplies from ally Venezuela cut off, and the Trump administration threatening sweeping tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba, fuel shipments to the island have effectively come to a halt.
