[Financial News] Global business media and Wall Street are showering praise on SK hynix, which made a dazzling debut on the New York stock market. Hailed as a "historic debut" that could reshape the semiconductor industry in the age of artificial intelligence (AI), the company immediately drew the attention of global capital markets by proving overwhelming investor expectations.
SK hynix, which began trading on Nasdaq through an American Depositary Receipt (ADR) on the 10th local time, closed its first day at $168.49, jumping 13.08% from the offering price. Major foreign outlets, including Bloomberg News and The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), ran the story as a top headline throughout the day and gave it intense coverage. Bloomberg, in particular, analyzed it as "a market bet that the AI boom will fundamentally alter the decades-long boom-and-bust cycle of memory semiconductors."
Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, also fueled investor optimism through a full-scale round of global media appearances. He appeared consecutively on major business channels such as CNBC and Bloomberg Television, saying that "the memory industry has moved beyond its old, purely cyclical structure as long-term supply contracts with customers have expanded," and expressed strong confidence in the company's fundamentals.

Foreign media also focused on the company's turbulent history, noting that it was reborn as the current SK hynix through a merger and creditor-led management during the Asian financial crisis. They described the Nasdaq listing as "the culmination of an extraordinary comeback story."
Investment experts on Wall Street are also backing the bullish view. Giuseppe Sette, co-founder of Reflexivity, said it is "the clearest large-cap option for U.S. investors looking to bet on the AI memory theme." Dan Coatsworth, head of AJ Bell, said that "U.S. demand for the offering exceeded expectations," adding that this suggests the semiconductor rally has not peaked but is merely taking a breather.
Meanwhile, the company's rising value is also reflected in an unusual social phenomenon in South Korea. AFP reported that the "SK hynix jumper" has recently become a meme symbolizing wealth and success, even being described as a ticket into luxury stores, drawing the interest of global readers.
