[Financial News] The Blue House said it had obtained approval to bring in the pistol gift that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan presented to President Lee Jae Myung after consulting with the National Police Agency.
According to the Blue House on the 11th local time, President Lee received one revolver and six rounds of live ammunition from President Erdoğan. In a press notice, the Blue House explained that "the firearm gift was approved for import after the Blue House and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs consulted with the National Police Agency."
Earlier media reports said President Erdoğan had given Turkish-made pistols to heads of state attending the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit held in Ankara, Türkiye, on the 7th and 8th.
The pistol is believed to be a Turkish-made revolver, a six-shot handgun known as the "Gumushay 357 Magnum," produced in the 1990s.
Some leaders were reported to have checked the gift boxes upon returning home and followed firearm-handling procedures.
As a result, some raised questions over whether President Lee had actually received the gift and whether the import procedure had been carried out lawfully.
The Blue House said, "The firearm will be safely transferred to the Presidential Archives under the management of the PSS."
