[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung has appointed Im Ki-geun, vice minister at the Ministry of Planning and Budget, as the new Minister for Government Policy Coordination.
Sung Ki-hong, Senior Presidential Secretary for Public Relations and Communications, said at a briefing at the Chunchugwan Press Center on the 10th, "President Lee has appointed Im Ki-geun, vice minister at the Ministry of Planning and Budget, as the new Minister for Government Policy Coordination." He added, "The new minister is a top expert in economic policy who has served as policy coordination director at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, budget review director, head of the Public Procurement Service, and vice minister at the Ministry of Planning and Budget."
He went on to explain, "Based on his experience coordinating complex economic policies, he is expected to rationally balance interministerial interests and manage key state affairs stably as Minister for Government Policy Coordination." He added, "He is the right person to support the Prime Minister and help drive the realization of an irreplaceable Korea, including becoming a powerhouse in cutting-edge industries and achieving growth for all citizens."
Asked about the background to the appointment, Sung said, "Since the new Prime Minister has been appointed and has begun work, I understand that the former minister's view that it would be desirable to work in step with a new Minister for Government Policy Coordination was also respected."
