President Lee, who is currently on a state visit to Mongolia, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on the 10th, "It would be helpful for national debate if we announce in advance key issues such as the appropriate holding tax on real estate, whether to differentiate between a single-home for actual residence and non-residential or multi-homes, what the appropriate difference is, whether to handle ultra-high-priced homes for actual residence separately, how much the additional burden should be for ultra-high-priced homes, the relationship between holding taxes and transaction taxes, and the uses of holding tax revenue.

President Lee is scheduled to personally attend the Grand National Debate on Real Estate Policy to be held on the 23rd. Prior to the grand debate, from the 14th to the 16th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Financial Services Commission, and the Ministry of Finance and Economy will each hold public forums on the themes of supply, finance, and taxation, respectively, to gather opinions from experts and the public.
Kim Yong-beom, Chief of the Presidential Policy Office, stated at a briefing at the Chunchugwan on this day, "We plan to hold a grand debate on the 23rd with the President in attendance to discuss the various opinions presented so far and explore policy directions. " Chief Kim emphasized, "We will also widely listen to the opinions of citizens who are unable to attend the forum," adding, "We will make the online opinion gathering channel open so that anyone can freely submit their opinions regardless of time or location, and we will thoroughly review the received opinions and faithfully reflect them in the forum discussions and policy review process.
" He added, "We will not assume that the government knows all the answers.
We will listen more to voices from the field and actively accept better alternatives," and asked for "much interest and participation so that this forum can serve as an opportunity to faithfully incorporate the diverse opinions of the public into policy.
" Real estate tax policies, including holding tax and transaction tax, are expected to be finalized following the forum as early as the end of July or by early August at the latest.
In particular, Chief of Staff Kim emphasized, "We do not proceed with a predetermined conclusion.
We will listen attentively and deliberate.
