Trump Says, "It Will Not Be a Resumption of War With Iran"

President Donald Trump moved to calm concerns again. Even after the United States resumed airstrikes on Iran and he declared that the "MOU on ending the war with Iran is over," he drew a line and said this did not mean a new war had begun. As his remarks sent international oil prices surging again, he suggested the renewed attacks on Iran would be short-lived.
At a press conference in Ankara, Turkey, where the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit was being held on the 8th local time, President Trump said he did not think the war with Iran would "resume." He added that "it will move quickly" when referring to the attacks on Iran.
Trump said the latest strikes were retaliation for Iran's attacks on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, and stressed that additional airstrikes would follow that night. Still, he said they would "not last long," suggesting that negotiations could resume after the retaliation for the ship attacks is complete.
He also said he had thought Iran's new leadership was "reasonable," but that recent actions over the past one to two weeks showed otherwise. He expressed skepticism about whether Iran even wants a deal. Trump said he was "not sure" whether he wanted to make an agreement with Iran and added, "Let's just get it done," hinting that he could declare the collapse of the peace talks.
