President Lee wraps up NATO summit, departs for Mongolia on three-day state visit

[Financial News, Ankara (Turkey)·Seoul = Reporters Seong Seok-woo and Choi Jong-geun]President Lee Jae-myung left Ankara, Turkey, on the 8th (local time) for Mongolia, after completing all of his engagements for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit.
At the invitation of Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, Lee will make a three-day state visit to Mongolia from the 9th to the 11th. It is the first state visit to Mongolia by a South Korean president in 15 years.
Just before departing for Mongolia, Lee wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "This is the first state visit to Mongolia by a South Korean president in 15 years. Now, the two countries aim to become strong partners that build the future together on the foundation of long-standing friendship and trust."
He added, "Have you heard that the familiar proverb, 'A neighbor nearby is better than a relative far away,' is also used in Mongolia with the same meaning? I feel even more warmly toward Mongolia because the two countries seem so alike in the way we cherish our neighbors and share affection. As true neighbors who support one another, I will broaden the scope of cooperation and return with meaningful results that both peoples can feel."
Lee is scheduled to arrive in Ulaanbaatar on the 9th, attend an official welcoming ceremony, and then hold a summit with President Khurelsukh. The two leaders are expected to announce the results of their talks through an agreement and memorandum of understanding signing ceremony, followed by a joint press statement.
