[Financial News] The cable tie that disappeared from the crime vehicle of Jang Yoon-gi, the killer of a high school girl in Gwangju, and sparked allegations of evidence destruction was found at the residence of his father, a serving police chief.
According to a report by Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) on the 8th, the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office identified and seized the cable tie during a search of the home of Jang's father, a police chief in the Gwangju area, the previous day.
The cable tie is a key piece of evidence suspected to be a crime tool Jang intended to use to abduct and restrain the victim, a high school girl. The investigation team at Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station, which was handling the case, confirmed it during an emergency search of Jang's vehicle on May 5, but did not secure it.
Although the vehicle inspection was recorded in photos and video, and the cable tie was also included in the investigation report, it has not been made clear why the physical evidence was not separately collected.
A police official said, "It appears they focused on recovering the weapon because the murder charge was the priority at the time, and overlooked the importance of the cable tie."
As the whereabouts of the cable tie remained unknown, police urgently arrested A, the chief of the investigation team, on suspicion of destroying evidence.
The prosecution plans to investigate whether there was any collusion between Chief Jang and the investigation team at the time of the case over the disappearance of the cable tie from Jang's vehicle.
